Some freelance e-learning product dev and branding for Johnny Clean — who are in the kickstarting a training program for senior leadership within the car wash industry. I consulted with JC to create a training initiative based on the ADDIE framework and Agile methodologies.

Johnny Clean is hoping to re-brand the Car Wash Industry. When thinking of the Car Wash Industry, we don't often think of bright colors, and fun, modern, design. I suggested changing this through the aesthetic of their e-Learning materials.
Solutions by Design
Like a lot of industries with long history, JC's current training solutions were limited by legacy materials created by retired experts; or else they outsourced their e-learning solutions to companies who knew little — and cared little — about their brand.

Rather than overwhelm their management staff and senior employees with pilies upon piles of paperwork, I offered a training program based on minimalist design. The goal was to put the information forward.

All journeys start somewhere, By aggregating legacy e-learning assets into a single, self-hosted database, we cut ties with costly outside services.
ADOPTING ADDIE
JC lacked an instructional on which to build their training program. By way of consultation and presentation, I suggested they adopt a simple five-step solution. The point was not to overwhelm the crew with theory. The point was to make e-learning as easy as possible why helping to guarantee a return on their investment in corporate education.

The instructional design process is a lot like washing a dirty car. We can run legacy learning materials through a creative conveyer, and when those legacy materials come out the other side, they look sparkling clean.
FINAL NOTES
I learned a lot while working with Johnny Clean. We tend to think of instructional design as something that takes place in corperate offices. But the truth is, all people, in all walks of life, are interested in learning new things. If I helped JC to create a better training program for their employees — if I helped to keep their employees safe — I only did so because of the openess to new ideas expressed by their management staff.

People add value that technology can’t replicate. Training and education require compassion, empathy, creativity, and interactive learning processes that are still best done by people. Whether you work in human resources, the service industry, or education, a great gameplan that puts people at the center of learning can help to secure the future of your industry.
